In reply to Park A. Studebaker. Yeah, the players are the ones getting punished for stuff they didn’t even do. That’s the part people always forget. If FIFA wants to call itself a real governing body, it should be forcing both sides to keep the sport separate from the political mess. Let the team play, stop using athletes as leverage.

In reply to FederalistFan. Yeah, in a perfect world sports would stay separate, but when governments and security concerns are involved, it’s never that simple. The players shouldn’t be the ones paying for it, though.

If the support staff were denied, and the coach needed to arrive earlier for training—that does sound like poor handling by the hosts. World Cup should be above this kind of nonsense.

I feel bad for the actual players. They trained hard and now they’re being dragged into a diplomatic circus because politicians can’t act like adults. Why should the players be caught in the middle? Why can’t politicians act like adults?

I don’t trust Iran’s complaints too much either, but if FIFA set rules then the US should follow them too. Can’t have one rule for one country and another rule for everybody else.
