In reply to independent_voter. Yeah, that’s the catch though — if the Saudis are going to get US nuclear help, some kind of normalization can’t just be swept under the rug forever. You can’t want the benefits of Washington’s partnership and refuse every diplomatic responsibility that comes with it.

Honestly, if Saudi Arabia wants our nuclear cooperation, recognizing Israel seems like a pretty reasonable ask. Peace deals don’t work if everyone keeps pretending the elephant in the room doesn’t exist.

People are acting like Saudi Arabia is the victim here, but the real issue is nuclear proliferation. You don’t hand out enrichment tech in the Middle East and pretend there won’t be consequences.
